Immigration sweep snares 76 in New Jersey by The Associated Press Wednesday October 01, 2008, 6:44 AM Immigration officials in New Jersey said 76 people have been arrested during a six-day sweep to pick up people on immigration violations. U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials say 60 of the 76 people arrested were fugitives -- a classification that includes people who ignore an order of deportation or fail to report to immigration authorities. Sixteen others were found to be living here illegally. Out of the 60 immigrants classified as fugitives, 24 had some kind of criminal record. ICE has 95 teams in place nationwide as part of its Fugitive Operations Program. Four of the teams operate in New Jersey.
